Learning the Art of Documentary Filmmaking with National Award-Winning Filmmaker R. V. Ramani | Rajan Chauhan Film Director
One of the most inspiring experiences during my time at the Parul Institute of Design, Parul University, was learning from acclaimed documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and National Award-winning director R. V. Ramani. Known for his distinctive approach to observational and experimental documentary cinema, his sessions offered a completely different perspective on filmmaking beyond mainstream narratives.
Interacting with a filmmaker of his caliber helped me understand that cinema is not only about telling stories—it is about observing life, capturing reality with honesty, and expressing emotions through visuals. His insights into documentary filmmaking, cinematography, visual rhythm, and the language of cinema encouraged me to think deeper about storytelling and the responsibility of a filmmaker.
As a Film & Television Production student, these learning opportunities at Parul University became an important part of my creative journey. The university's emphasis on workshops, masterclasses, and industry interactions gave students direct access to experienced filmmakers and professionals, allowing us to learn from real-world practices beyond the classroom.
Meeting and learning from R. V. Ramani reinforced my passion for filmmaking and broadened my perspective as a director. Experiences like these shaped not only my technical understanding of cinema but also my appreciation for authentic storytelling, independent filmmaking, and the power of visual expression.
