Learning Storytelling with National Award-Winning Filmmaker Manish Saini | Rajan Chauhan Film Director
During my journey at the Parul Institute of Design, Parul University, I had the privilege of learning from National Award-winning filmmaker Manish Saini, one of the most respected voices in contemporary Gujarati cinema. Known for acclaimed films like Dhh, Gandhi & Co., and Shubh Yatra, his approach to filmmaking demonstrated how simple, honest stories can create a powerful emotional impact.
His sessions focused on the importance of storytelling, character development, screenplay, visual communication, and directing performances with authenticity. Rather than relying on spectacle, he emphasized creating cinema that connects with audiences through emotion, simplicity, and human experiences.
As an aspiring film director, interacting with Manish Saini broadened my understanding of regional cinema and reinforced the idea that meaningful stories can transcend language and geography. Learning directly from an award-winning filmmaker who has represented Gujarati cinema on national and international platforms was an inspiring experience that continues to influence my perspective on filmmaking.
The industry interactions and masterclasses at Parul University played an important role in shaping my creative journey, giving me the opportunity to learn from accomplished filmmakers whose work reflects both artistic excellence and cultural authenticity. Manish Saini is an Indian filmmaker, writer, producer, and editor best known for his contribution to Gujarati cinema. A graduate of the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, he is recognized for creating meaningful, family-oriented films that combine strong storytelling with social themes. His directorial debut, Dhh (2017), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Gujarati and was officially selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF Kids) and several other international film festivals. He later directed Gandhi & Co. (2022), another acclaimed children's film, followed by Shubh Yatra (2023) and Jai Mata Ji – Let's Rock (2025).
