A New Chapter in Film Direction and Assistant Direction

Ahmedabad-based filmmaker and media professional Rajan Chauhan has joined the upcoming Gujarati feature-length film ‘Parjaa’ as a Assistant Director (AD).

The film is being made by the team associated with the successful Gujarati film ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Tare’, under Manifest Films, with filmmaker Ankit Sakhiya directing the project.

For Rajan, Parjaa marks an important step forward in his journey within the Gujarati film industry and comes with an expanded set of responsibilities on a large-scale feature-film production.

From Film School to the Professional Set

Rajan Chauhan is a filmmaker from Gujarat with an academic background in Film & Television Production, specialising in Film Direction.

Over the years, he has worked across different areas of media production, gaining experience in filmmaking, advertising, digital media and production.

His journey has increasingly moved toward professional film sets, where his focus has been on understanding the complete filmmaking process—from planning and coordination to execution on location.

Joining Parjaa represents another major step in that journey.

Working as Assistant Director on ‘Parjaa’

As a Assistant Director, Rajan is working as part of the film's direction department and is involved in the practical coordination and execution required during production.

In addition to his regular responsibilities within the AD department, he is also handling the Junior Artist Department for the project.

His responsibilities include coordinating artists required for:

  • Side roles

  • Background characters

  • Crowd sequences

  • Junior artists

  • Large-scale crowd requirements

  • Artist communication and coordination

  • Shoot-day deployment and reporting

Handling a large number of artists on a feature-film set requires detailed planning, communication and coordination between multiple departments.

For Rajan, this responsibility has provided an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in managing one of the most logistically demanding aspects of large-scale film production.

First Schedule Successfully Completed

The first shooting schedule of Parjaa was completed over approximately 25 days, running from 23 August to 16 September 2026.

The schedule involved multiple shooting requirements and a considerable number of artists, including side-role performers, background artists and crowd artists.

For Rajan, the completion of the first schedule represents a significant professional milestone—not only because of his role in the direction department, but also because of the responsibility entrusted to him for the Junior Artist Department.

From artist requirements and communication to on-ground coordination during shooting, the schedule provided valuable practical experience in the realities of feature-film production.

A Large Cast and Crew

Parjaa is being developed as a large-scale Gujarati feature film with an extensive cast and crew.

The project is associated with filmmaker Ankit Sakhiya and the team behind Laalo, with names such as Ajay Balwant Padariya, Shubham Gajjar and Jay Vyas associated with the project.

The film is also expected to feature a large ensemble of performers. Names associated with the project include Shruhad Goswami, Reeva Rachch and Bhavini Jani, among others.

With a large production team and multiple departments working simultaneously, the film requires extensive coordination both behind and in front of the camera.

More Shooting Ahead

The first schedule may be complete, but the journey of Parjaa is far from over.

The production's larger upcoming schedule is being planned after Diwali, with shooting expected to continue through the period from approximately November 2026 to January 2027.

The upcoming schedule is expected to bring further production requirements, larger scenes and continued work across multiple departments.

For Rajan, this means another opportunity to continue learning, contributing and growing within the direction department of a Gujarati feature film.

More Than Just a Credit

For an aspiring filmmaker, working on a feature film is about much more than adding another title to a filmography.

Every production brings a different learning experience.

Working as a 2nd AD provides an opportunity to understand how a director's vision is translated into practical execution on a working set—while handling junior artists and crowd requirements adds another layer of responsibility involving people management, planning and production coordination.

Parjaa is therefore an important chapter in Rajan Chauhan's continuing filmmaking journey.

It is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced film team, understand the demands of large-scale Gujarati cinema and build practical experience that can contribute to his long-term goal of becoming a filmmaker and director.

A New Milestone in the Journey

From studying film direction to working professionally on feature-film sets, Rajan Chauhan's journey continues to move forward through opportunities that allow him to learn directly from real productions.

With the first 25-day schedule of Parjaa successfully completed and the next major schedule planned for the coming months, the project represents one of the most notable professional opportunities in his career so far.

As production continues, Rajan will remain involved with the film as Assistant Director, while continuing to handle the Junior Artist Department for side roles, background artists and crowd requirements.

The journey of Parjaa continues—and for Rajan Chauhan, so does the journey toward becoming a filmmaker.

One film. One set. One experience at a time.
