Rajan Chauhan with Dominican Actress & Filmmaker Judith Rodríguez + Actress and Producer Hony Estrella at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa

One of the most memorable experiences of my filmmaking journey was meeting internationally acclaimed Dominican film personalities Judith Rodríguez and Hony Estrella during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panjim, Goa. As one of India's most prestigious film festivals, IFFI brings together filmmakers, actors, producers, writers, and cinema enthusiasts from across the world, creating a unique platform for cultural exchange through the language of cinema.
Coming from the Dominican Republic, both Judith Rodríguez and Hony Estrella have made remarkable contributions to Latin American cinema. Judith Rodríguez is an accomplished actress, filmmaker, producer, and writer known for her powerful performances in internationally recognized films and her commitment to independent cinema. Hony Estrella is a celebrated actress, television presenter, and producer whose work has played an important role in expanding the reach of Dominican films to global audiences.
Meeting filmmakers from another part of the world reminded me that cinema has no boundaries. Although our languages, cultures, and filmmaking traditions may differ, the passion for storytelling remains universal. Conversations and interactions with international artists help broaden a filmmaker's perspective, encouraging us to appreciate diverse narratives, production styles, and creative approaches.
As an aspiring film director, attending IFFI was much more than watching films. It was an opportunity to connect with professionals from different countries, understand global filmmaking cultures, and witness how cinema becomes a bridge between people from different backgrounds. Every interaction at the festival reinforced my belief that learning never stops, and every filmmaker carries a unique vision shaped by their culture and experiences.
Experiences like these continue to inspire my journey as a filmmaker. They remind me that great cinema is built not only through technical excellence but also through curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to learn from storytellers around the world. Meeting Judith Rodríguez and Hony Estrella at IFFI remains a meaningful milestone in my journey toward becoming a globally connected filmmaker. Both Judith Rodríguez and Hony Estrella are among the most recognized personalities in the Dominican Republic's contemporary film industry.
